Cape Crisis

The hunt for a solid cape was on, but I must admit, I wasn’t sure if I would actually use it enough to warrant spending an exorbitant amount of money, and for some reason, I was unable to find really nice, moderately priced cape coats at the mall. Online was the only option. You know how it is online, the struggle is indeed quite real. And since you cannot tangibly assess a good purchase, you are left to buy blind, which is always tricky. This is the fundamental fashion girl crisis.

I was finally able to resolve my crisis by stumbling upon a weird Asian website called sammydress.com. If you haven’t heard of it, check it out. It’s an online retailer that is so unbelievably cheap, you assume it’s a scam. And that may or may not be true, but I was so pleasantly surprised that my package came in tact with everything I had ordered.

Now, are you ready for the icing on the cake? This cape coat I’m wearing costs me $6. No, I’m not kidding. You are probably wondering what’s wrong with it right? I mean, after all, one does not simply stumble upon $6 coats without some catch. Well, to be fair, the quality is on parr with Forever 21, and the fit is a little weird, and shipping took a month, but did I mention it was $6?

I felt like the fashion gods above were really looking out for me. The cape was a fashion risk of sorts, and here’s a website practically giving it to me for free. What more could I ask for?

The moral of this story? The best part about fashion is the ability to mix high-end and low-end pieces. For this look, I’m wearing low-end clothes with high-end accessories because I can. No one is sitting there tallying up the cost of a look. No one really cares, because ultimately a good outfit is a good outfit, regardless how much it costs. Not everything needs to be designer for you to achieve that look. And really, just because it’s designer doesn’t mean it’s fashion. Know what to spend where, and wear what you love. Always.

  1. The Cape from sammydress looks weird. price is great, but tailoring – not. Did you pay much on shipping and handling for this order from China? I’m placing my first order with them on few “free shipping items”, that’s how I came across to your post.

Thoughts?
